What was your previous career and what is your current role?
I previously worked as a financial auditor. Currently, I am an intern in Mavericks, where I engage in solving challenging and fascinating problems every day.
What inspired you to change careers?
I am interested in roles that allow me to solve problems creatively, and my previous career did not offer such opportunities. Eventually, I hit a plateau in my learning growth. However, I decided to learn programming on the side, which reignited my passion and motivated me to pursue a full-time programming career.
How did you acquire the necessary skills for your new industry?
I enrolled in a coding bootcamp, where I gained hands-on experience and practical knowledge. The structured learning environment, combined with personal projects and support, equipped me with the relevant technical skills for my new career in tech.
What advice would you give to aspiring Career Changers?
Go for it and don't look back! It may seem daunting but I had almost zero knowledge in IT before I took the leap. The IT industry is brimming with endless possibilities and opportunities for innovation. If you have a passion for creating and problem-solving, this field offers the chance to bring your dreams to life. With the right support and passion, the sky's the limit!
How has your experience been so far?
My experience in Mavericks has been incredibly fruitful and fulfilling. I’ve had the opportunity to explore various tech stacks and tackle new problems daily. It may be frustrating at times but the sense of accomplishment after solving various issues is immensely gratifying and continuously drives my passion for this field.
How did Mavericks help you with your career transition?
Mavericks has been instrumental in my development as a well-rounded developer. Beyond enhancing my coding skills, I’ve learned best practices and new tools from my colleagues. Additionally, Mavericks has given me opportunities to explore other tech roles and supported my growth in soft skills, which are crucial for effective communication and teamwork in a tech environment.
